Sex change historically know as sex reassignment surgery (SRS) or Gender reassignment surgery (GRS), operation is performed to transition individuals with gender dysphoria to their desired gender. People with gender dysphoria often feel that they were born in the wrong gender. A biological male may identify more as a female. This subspecialty of plastic surgery can be truly life-changing for those who do not feel physical characteristics match their inner self.
Before operation you have to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon about the procedure in detail, in order to ensure about which operation is the best and which way is the safest way for you. Therefore, if you regret and want to turn back to the same gender as before, the surgeon is not able to do it due to, the complication in the process.
There are many different kinds of surgeries that fall under the category of “sex change surgery” but today I’m going to give the most common type of sex change surgery. There are 3 main surgeries.
- Penile skin flap inversion is the most popular procedure for vagina construction but this is the old technique easy to perform but the appearance is not nice. this technique is to create the vagina by using the whole penile skin flap turn into vaginoplasty. This technique suitable for those people who has penis quite large and long and never circumcision before, can be depth about 4-5 inches.
- Neovagina with scrotal graft this technique is to create vagina by using Penile skin inversion with scrotal graft or other skin as well, mostly popular excess skin will be from bottom or groin but the disadvantage about graft is will cause unnecessary extra wound so normally surgeon will go to excess skin from crease, so that the surgeon can hide all the scars. This technique suitable for patient that have a small penis between 2-6 inches but require for depth vaginaplasty, therefore in this case can be depth around 5-7 inches, but in this case patient have to enlarge neogaina for almost 6 months to 1 year.
- Neovagina with Sigmoid colon this technique is to create vagina by using piece of recto sigmoid colon instead of skin grafts to make neovagina, this type is suited those patient who require for deeper neovagina. This technique allows for the creation of a deep and self-lubricated vagina. Moreover, this technique is required for 2 teams of surgeons, colorectal surgeons and plastic surgeons.
There are 2 kinds of Sigmoid colon.
Firstly – Primary colon vaginoplasty, this case is suitable for those patient who has a very tiny penis, did a circumcision and cut the testicle as well
Secondly – Secondarly colon vaginoplasty, so in this case is for those patient who has already did sex change before but vaginoplasty is too shallow not deep anymore.
However, for sigmoid colon the depth can be around 7-8 inches or more than that. But the disadvantage is will cause the scar above mons pubis because the surgeon has to open to perform an incision. Meanwhile this technique is not suitable for over weigh people.
